300th party in Covent Garden
St Clement Danes Primary School in Covent Garden celebrated its 300th birthday today with an events-filled afternoon for pupils, parents, staff and governors.
To mark the founding of the school 300 years ago, the St Clement Danes Educational Foundation laid on a Winter Fair and a huge music & fireworks show. Large amounts of food and drink were available (and consumed!) and the excited young crowd, joined by parents and friends, was entertained by Fizzie Lizzie's Magic Show. A clown and various helpers were on hand to provide balloons, face painting and music.
A great time was had by all in the playground and the school hall, despite the bitterly cold weather. The cutting of a large birthday cake provided further excitement. The absence of 300 candles on the cake was compensated for by a huge fire works display on the roof of the school.
Future festivities to mark the School's 300th anniversary include a visit by HM The Queen on 14/2/2001, the annual Oranges & Lemons Service at St Clement Danes Church on 5/4/2001 and a street party in the Summer.
