Westminster City Council Arms

100 years of modern local government in London

100 y/o dust cart!

The Lord Mayor of Westminster, Cllr Michael Brahams, has arranged an interesting exhibition of documents, paintings and other items of interest from the mayoral collection and the City of Westminster Archives.

Westminster's title as a City was granted by Royal Charter on 29th October 1900. The various changes during the past 100 years make for fascinating local history, including the creation of the separate boroughs of Paddington and Marylebone, and their subsequent merger with Westminster.

The exhibition will open on Saturday 28th October at 11:00 hrs at Westminster Council House, Marylebone Road, London NW1. It will be open to the public between 09:30-17:00 from 30th October until 3rd November. The Lord Mayor and his deputy will be taking pupils from various local schools around the exhibition throughout the week. Anyone with an interest in local history is very welcome.
