Salmagundi's weekend in Lyme:
As the sun rose over Lyme Bay, the Salmagundi Gardeners Cricket Club began their ninth annual pilgrimage to Lyme Regis, in Dorset, for the final match of an exciting season, against the Stuart Case team, "Case's Commando's", played at Uplyme Cricket Club.: 16th September 2001 - Case's Commando's
With nearly four hundred runs and a number of fifties on each side, but, impressive as those statistics are, surely the most important endeavour took place elsewhere, and on the Sunday. 16th September 2001 - Case's Commando's (Minority Report)
James Tait Gets Shock Lift Home: Official disclaimer: the report this week may contain some inaccuracies (as against the usual deliberate and downright lies) because Oak and Beech ran off with the scorebook in an attempt to prevent a report being written and through this somehow lessen the extent of our gloating. No chance. This was another fantastic victory or loss...read on. 2nd September 2001 - Oak and Beech
Gardeners in another last over thriller: Once again, Salmagundi Gardeners managed to devise a cliff-hanging end to a game, this week against White Swans. In there last over White Swans and so needed 17 from the final over to win. Edgar Saunders was entrusted with this crucial over and was hit for 4, 6 and 4 from his first three balls. Next came a dot ball and so Swans needed 3 to win from 2 balls. And then - horror - Edgar bowled a wide. 12th August 2001 - White Swans
Gardeners Lost in Fog Over Channel: There are no two ways about it, this was a poor performance and the Gardeners were well beaten in our first ever game against Channel 4. However, on the positive side, readers may remember that, in an earlier game this season, Jim Monahan proved Einstein's relativity theory. Even more sensationally, in this game we saw a challenge to the Second Law of Thermodynamics - but more of that later. 5th August 2001 - Channel 4
Another nail-biting finish for the Gardeners: Almost a year to the day when Seorais Graham and Jim Monahan batted brilliantly but vainly in a last wicket stand against Oak and Beech, the same pair featured in a late drama, this time against French House. Salmagundi Gardeners 29th July 2001 - French House
Gardeners triumph again as records tumble: Salmagundi Gardeners rampaged to a third successive win today by the huge margin of 88 runs (is this a record?) and with what may well be a new record for a fourth wicket stand (it will take a little time to check the archives). Not only that, in what must surely be another record, SGCC had 13 players available at the start of the game. 15th July 2001 - Abdul Aziz
Salmagundi Beat Themselves at Their Own Game: Another Sunday and another victory for the Gardeners. How did they beat themselves? Read on... 8th July 2001 - Lounge Lizards
Salmagundi Fail To Produce Anything Risible: Although taking the mickey is a vital part of the Salmagundi game, this week it's very difficult to find anybody to laugh at. Cricket report 1st July 2001 - Oak and Beech, Amersham
Big Phil Almost Wins It: No tension about this report, Salmagundi lost - but the finish was tense, with the last few wickets falling quickly just when Phil Sessions, with a thundering 85 not out, had almost seen the team home. Cricket report 24th June 2001 - Eversheds
Another day, and finally a game: But where was the kit? (Covent Garden) and the Captain? (Crouch End). North and Central London, were eventually united in the South London carpark, and having unsettled the opposition, who didn't realise that the 2 o'clock start was purely notional, the toss was lost and we were put in. 17th July 2000
Oak & Beech report: On the weekend when a valiant late stand by Dominic Cork and Darren Gough had delivered the Second Test to England, the scene was replicated when last man Seorais Graham strode to the wicket to join man-of-the-match Jim Monahan with 46 needed. Did they make it? Well read on. 1st July 2000
Gardeners & Sheds: You would have thought that a total of 493 was sufficient to beat most teams but, despite this record for the aggregate age of today's team, the Gardeners were unable to repeat last week's winning performance. So, although SGCC produced a creditable effort with the bat, we fell to a 6 wicket defeat by Eversheds, probably the strongest team we face all season. Evershed report
Gardeners thrash Germans: Well, actually it wasn't the Germans, it was the French - French House, but it seemed more topical to put it that way. Report
