Covent Garden London
The heart of London's West End
Age Concern Covent Garden Centre
Who are we? We are a Day Centre that caters for the elder person in Covent Garden. We have 150 members with ages ranging from 60 to 100. Yes! One of our members achieved her ton in April this year.
Can you imagine the party we had? We provide lunches every day.
There are activities of all sorts every day, ranging from Bingo to Keep Fit.
You name it and we will try to provide it.
During the year we were involved in: the 30 year celebration of the CGCA with a stall in Neal Street, the celebrations at St Paul's for the Punch and Judy, and to cap it all we had a stall in the Jubilee Market in October of last year. All the stall space was provided to us free of charge, for which we must say a grateful "thank you". We had two full sittings for Christmas lunch and all those who came had their lunch free and took home a small present.
Alison Cattermoule arranged for the Fire Brigade to come along and talk to the members about fire hazards and also offered smoke alarms for those who did not have them.
Our local police are ever present and drop in to see us when they can.
WPC Mandy King arranged for a visit by the dog section, which I think the dogs enjoyed as much as did the members. Guess who came to serve lunch at Christmas? Yes! It was our local police.
Kim, of IACG, arranged a Pancake Tossing day, the proceeds from this and a matched funding cheque from Camelot went a long way to topping up the club funds. This, in turn, gives the members subsidised trips away to the seaside etc.
Space is short so I can't go on, except to say that anyone living in Covent Garden wanting to join us, please do come along.
Charles Port, Centre Manager
