Covent Garden London
The heart of London's West End
Covent Garden Area Youth Club
I can't believe its a year since John Bos asked me to put something together for the CGCA's Annual Report regarding the Youth Club - time flies. The Youth Club is still in action, with workers Anthony Gentle and Philipe Corett keeping everything running smoothly, from the Community Centre. We are in the process of advertising for a senior worker and to date applications are coming in thick and fast! It has been another year of change and working towards permanent premises. We have had discussions with a Trust Fund who are hoping to secure premises in Drury Lane - but these discussions are all very much in their early stages - so as I've said before, watch this space. Early this year, the Management Committee took the unusual step of advertising for new members to come on to the Committee and we have taken on two new members: Jennifer Almeida and Karen Brodie. At the same time, we also have another new member, Mark Chalcraft, who replaces Lynn Harrison as the representative from Charing Cross Police Station. Lynn has left the police force, but luckily for us, is staying on the Youth Club Committee. So there are quite a few changes on the Committee.
We have purchased DJ equipment and the members are busy using their skills to participate in a "mini rave"/DJ competition. So together with access to the usual equipment and various outings such as bowling and ice skating, the Youth Club is still able to provide an important facility for the young people in our area. Somewhere safe and secure, rather than hanging out in the local estates and streets.
