Covent Garden London
The heart of London's West End
Phoenix Community Garden
We are pleased to announce that the Phoenix Garden is going from strength to strength following the Annual General Meeting, which was held last July. We have formed a new Management Committee which has worked very hard to ensure that the Phoenix becomes a safe area for both people working and living in the area, especially for local children. Due to financial problems we were compelled to reduce the hours of our gardener and unfortunately our normal gardener was unable to continue with us. We have now employed a new gardener/cleaner, but he is working fewer hours and we are very pleased with him. We are working very closely with the Police and Camden Council to reduce the petty crime within the Garden (i.e. drug abuse and vagrancy). We had a petition signed by local people about security in the Garden and presented it to 10 Downing Street. We have had new fencing erected and to our surprise we won a design award for the Garden. We also have a new stage, which looks very nice.
A Carol Service performed by Soho Parish School was held in December and despite the poor weather it was a most enjoyable evening. At Easter we had a family day which involved an egg hunt, chess games, a bouncy castle and competitions. Again this was a pleasant day, but the weather let us down. The Garden is now suitable for children to have parties. In fact there was one held recently and this was enjoyed by all. We have since received several enquires for parties (children only). The Garden is also available for any musical group that wishes to hold an event and local schools and nurseries are encouraged to use the garden for 'field' trips to do with nature.
Please telephone the Garden on (0207) 379 3187 for details of Membership, which is only £5 per year.
