Covent Garden London
The heart of London's West End
8 Newton Street Tenants' & Residents' Association
It seems that the majority of our time this past year has been spent in dealing with the major building works at the back and front of our block. Everyone has suffered a year of constant noise and disruption on a daily basis from the three sites surrounding us. Fortunately, meetings have taken place with Soho Housing Association, one of the sites, to try to alleviate any problems. We have been unable to gain any progress with the Barratts site immediately across the road from our block, which is a huge development taking in most of 8 Newton Street and a large area in Kingsway. There has been a lot of correspondence with Barratts but it seems the larger the company, the harder it is to make contact, especially for a small block as ours. As a number of tenants are elderly and many are unable to get out of their flats, it has been a depressing time.
We will be very sad to lose one of our most active members of the Association in the very near future due to her moving home. Kathleen Ross has been with the Association since it started and a regular DMC member representing us at various meetings. We wish her all the very best!
On a brighter note, the garden workers, who are a dedicated few, have kept our garden looking wonderful as ever and each year it seems to improve. We are so lucky to have a garden area to enjoy in this area and their hard work has been much appreciated.
