Covent Garden London
The heart of London's West End
Charing Cross Police
During the last year the Covent Garden Community Team has undergone some personnel changes, PC Bob McAllister and PC Lynn Harrison, two of our longest serving officers, left for pastures new and we now have PC Paul Evans and PC Mandy King in their place.
Sergeant Alan Blacklock also joined the team and he has been responsible for the introduction of the updated Network One pager scheme which now includes information on handbag thieves, shoplifters, pre-planned public order events. and major incidents i.e. suspect devices, road closures and police cordons.
Members include shops, pubs, clubs and hotels and premises who were previously linked to the Terrorist Early Warning System. For further information, Alan can be contacted on (0207) 321 7729.
We have continued to attend a variety of local meetings, both residential and business and we also have officers on the management committees of Age Concern and the Covent Garden Youth Club. St Clement Danes primary school also see a lot of our officers with assistance given to the children on days out, escorting the whole school to and from church, delivery of the schools involvement programme and help with football lessons.
Various operations targeting motor vehicle and pedal cycle thieves and street traders have taken place and the requirements of the Crime and Disorder Act mean that we will be building on our partnership approach with Westminster Council.
Currently the team is concentrating on burglaries on business premises which have shown a slight increase recently.
Our residents newsletter has received sponsorship from Dr Martens which has enabled us to produce a better quality document.
