Covent Garden London
The heart of London's West End
Age Concern's day centre in Covent Garden is a centre for anyone over 60 years of age. It is a warm, friendly Centre, always keen to welcome new members. The Centre continues to have daily activities to suit all. Some of the groups include keep-fit, discussion groups, art class, French lessons and of course, Bingo! We also have a choir, which enjoys singing to anyone. At Christmas it was arranged for them to sing at Leicester Square tube station, however, the dreaded flu hit the choir leaving only four to sing - they sang their hearts out and managed to raise money, which went towards our Christmas Party. We have also decided to have monthly theme days: St Patrick's day went down with a bang, so we had to celebrate St George's Day. We had traditional bangers and mash and a good old fashioned knees-up afterwards. The Centre was decorated in red and white and the art group drew roses and dragons. The Union Jack was hung everywhere - St George would have been proud! We were too late to participate in last year's Flower Festival, so we decided to hold our own festival in the Centre. The members decorated the centre with flowers, kindly donated by Neal Street East. We made cuttings and members brought in plants. We also had a craft stall and the whole event proved to be a success and was enjoyed by all! The members hope to participate in the Flower Festival this year. Over the past year we have continued to fund-raise by having jumble sales, raffles, bazaars, etc. As a charity, fund raising is essential, so that we can continue to provide activities, theme days, parties, etc. We appreciate the support from so many generous companies in the Covent Garden area and enjoy providing a quality Service to our members.
