First walk-in health clinic opens in Soho

The first of 10 new-style 'no-appointment' minor illness & accident clinics in the UK opens today to serve the West End.

The Government has planned ten walk-in health centres in England to relieve the burden on over-stretched accident & emergency departments in busy hospitals. The clinic will be based at the Soho Centre for Health and Care, at the corner of Frith Street and Soho Square, and is within 10 minutes walking distance from Covent Garden.

The clinic will deal with non-urgent accidents and illnesses and will be open outside normal working hours. Six specially trained nurse practitioners will treat small burns, cuts, sprains, etc and will have an X-ray room from the end of February. No appointment is needed and patients do not need to be registered with a GP (although they will be helped to find their nearest GP for follow-up treatment).

Instead of waiting at busy hospitals, residents, chefs and revellers who have cut or burnt themselves (or have fallen over in the gutter...) can now get quality treatment locally. A real boon for Soho and Covent Garden, which 'boast' the highest number of restaurants (and thus chefs) in the country.

The walk-in centre will be open between 07:30-21:00 hrs Mon-Fri and 10:00-20:00 Sat-Sun.
