Public meeting about our city centre - late night noise, filthy streets, anti-social behaviour, drug dealing.
Wednesday 29th September 1999
6.30pm at Westminster Council House
Marylebone Road, London NW1.
(near Baker Street tube station)
This meeting is open to anyone who cares about the West End - please bring a friend!
The amenity societies in Westminster have organised a public meeting to discuss the future of central London and will be calling on Westminster City Council to protect the amenity of residents.
The meeting is the start of a crusade to force the authorities to stop talking about our problems and act!
- Items to be discussed primarily relate to the 24-hour city and include:
- the appalling lack of enforcement
- will it be possible for residents to remain living in the centre of the city?
- is the general public still safe in the West End?
- will pedestrianisation lead to further, widespread disorder and alcohol consumption?
- the effect of the West End on established, non-alcohol related business such as theatres, family entertainment, shopping
- will the changes manifested in the West End spread throughout central London?
- is Westminster City Council powerless, disinterested or opposed to helping to preserve our communities?
- should we put up with littered, stinking streets or should we tell the Council that 'enough is enough'?
Please come along on Wed 29th September and be part of the debate. The threat to the amenity of central London residents is too serious to ignore. We must ask for action NOW!
