6.1 HEALTH AUTHORITY SERVICES
Health Authorities contract, monitor and develop primary health care and are responsible for purchasing health care from hospitals and community units. They provide information on doctors, dentists, opticians, chemists, family planning, maternity care, pharmacy and chiropody, mental health teams and physiotherapists. Issue prescription exemption certificates and prescription season tickets for regular medication if you are not exempt from charges.
To register with a doctor or dentist, telephone your relevant health authority who will provide a list of the six closest practitioners and ensure that you are accepted by one.
