In 1991 the CGCA set up the Covent Garden Business Group with the aims to: Protect and promote business interests in Covent Garden, provide a unified voice for all businesses in Covent Garden, promote Covent Garden as a thriving trading centre, stimulate development of enterprise and growth in the locality, provide advice on specific issues threatening businesses, increase awareness of Covent Garden and what it offers, provide advice on specific issues affecting its members, represent and promote the business interests of its members and support the CGCA in its work.

The annual membership fee which entitles businesses to general advice starts at £95. Our Business Group Co-ordinator deals with enquiries and helps with problems. Tel: 7209 2515. e-mail: info@businessgroup.co.uk

(circulation of 5000) is published by CGCA. Articles are invited for inclusion in the Business Focus section.

The CGCA has a long experience of successful campaigns. The Business Group is currently campaigning for a fairer rating system, improvements to Covent Garden Underground Station and the control of illegal street traders. Seminars and meetings are organised and advice can be arranged for business members on:

3.2 RATES

Business rateable values are assessed by the Inland Revenue. Rates are calculated by multiplying the rateable value of the property by the Uniform Business Rate set by Government. Rates are collected by Councils on behalf of central Government.
