Covent Garden London
The heart of London's West End
|
The photographs have been presented to show a typical working day in the life of the market, beginning with the people leaving the Opera House and strolling through the deserted Dedicated Market and then showing the gradual build up as the lorries of fruit and vegetables arrive throughout the night and are unloaded, the stalls are set up, and then the climax as the buyers move in and the market begins. As the pace slackens and London comes to life, so we move into the final day of trading in the market. Now an essence of sadness pervades the photographs.-the stalls are dismantled or demolished, the shutters drawn down and the workers go for a final drink together-the market is closing forever. |
