The Apple Market in Covent Garden is a unique venue that provides tourists, local residents, and all Londoners a place to find some very unique and hand crafted specialities. One can find anything from home made soap, jewellery, beautiful paintings, handcrafted clothing, and many more imaginative creations. Market worker Jane Ireland has been showing her talent to the Covent Garden community and its visitors for twenty years at the Apple Market. She specialises in creatively painting neckties.
Jane began her career as a textile designer but eventually moved on to painting. "I've always liked painting and decided to try it on clothing. I used to paint on most anything: shirts, skirts, knickers, but decided to just focus on one item of clothing which is when I began working with ties."
Jane has a great variety of designs to choose from and if you don't see exactly what you want she is always available to take commissions. If you want to please that golf fan for instance, she can always crate that perfect golf scene, or if you prefer, she will happily replicate any picture you may bring.
Working at the Apple Market for so many years, Jane obviously enjoys the time that she spends there. "This work allows me to be creative and I love working on my own. Also the social life here is good we are all good friends, we all watch out for each other."
All of the friends in the close community of Apple Market invite you to come and pay them a visit. They would love to show you their interesting creations. Jane Ireland has her stall at the market every Wednesday and Friday so please stop by to pick out your favourite necktie. The Apple Market is open seven days a week with an art and craft market six days a week and an antique market on Mondays.
