In 1878 Charles Fox began his career in the heart of London, supplying the professional theatre with make-up, costumes, and wigs. His clients included unforgettables including Sir Henry Irving and Ellen Terry. Nearly 125 years later his company is still thriving and supplying the best quality make-up products at competitive prices.
You will see the works of the Charles Fox company on the faces of the models on the London catwalk, the talented performers on stage in the West End theatres, to the person next to you on your commute to work. Some of the more popular items used are the removing cream, camouflage cream to hide any unwanted redness, and also the basics such as their amazingly large colour range of eyeshadows and lipsticks.
Paul Vale, make-up consultant at Charles Fox, tells of one of the more unique items that is often requested. "We often have requests for what is called block mascara (a hard block of mascara which is dampened and then applied with a brush). The requests are usually from women who grew up using it and prefer it to today's version. We are one of the few places where you can still purchase it."
Once inside the store, you are able to construct your own palette of eyeshadow, receive prescription make-up, and find Fudge hair products from Australia. Also a perfect stop for your next costume party, with items such as fake blood, glamorous wigs including the Barbie beehive or Hugh Grant style, and temporary beards and not so attractive fake teeth.
Paul explains one of the best attributes of Charles Fox: "What is good about us is that if you buy make-up from us you can buy it here for the next 40+ years because we keep it available. We don't just keep up with fashion and in turn throw away what was on the shelves last year. Whenever you re-visit London you can always get your favourite item again."
