Sam Mendes
The CGCA's 28th AGM was a huge success. After the formal part of the
meeting, Covent Garden's own 'wunderkind' Sam Mendes spoke about his multi
award winning film 'American Beauty' and about Covent Garden. See pictures
of Sam, the crowds and the party at http://www.coventgarden.org.uk/news

Car Free Day
Nothing to do with the fuel crisis, the European Car Free day will take
place on Friday 22nd September around the Seven Dials. All streets around
the Dials will be closed to traffic between 7 am and 7 pm. Camden Council
has organised free street entertainment, including bands, stilt-walkers,
costumed Victorian street entertainers and a horse-drawn omnibus. London
Mayor Ken Livingstone will stop off on a '4-wheel drive bicycle' at 3 pm.

Project Lilac
This is the new 18-month initiative to rid the Charing Cross Road & Centre
Point area from drugs. Funded by the Home Office, the 15 dedicated police
officers will work across the borough boundary in an attempt to restore
normality to this crime hot-spot. http://www.coventgarden.org.uk/news

Salmagundi
"a hotchpotch, a miscellany" (NSE Dictionary), but also the most eclectic
mix of cricketers in central London. Watched every Test Match and still want
more? Read the Gardeners' incredible match reports (and marvel at their
unbelievable scores) at http://www.coventgarden.org.uk/salmagundi
